The Book > Chapter 20
As much as we would revel in accepting all the artworks, for this universe not to become completely chaotic (we have enough of that) and to lack genuine coherence, some curation is indeed required. On your side, you would also like some reassurance on the professional status of the catalogue, i.e. assessing if it is worth your time.
In order to answer what could be exhibited in The Blue Neon, we must briefly consider the definition of beauty itself. Philosophers and artists alike have discussed this matter at length over the centuries and you'd better dive into some of their findings for a more thorough and legitimate answer. But here is one nonetheless.
A fellow wanderer, whose name unfortunately escapes me, proposed this statement and I admit to be pretty partial to it: “Beauty lies in the creative process, in the ability to combine elements, to reveal something unique and to interact with the world to make it appear new. Creative thinking allows us to change how we access the intangible and when something feels true even if new, that’s where beauty is”
This illustration of beauty suits The Blue Neon and comforts its approach – a biased one - that the sole criteria for assessing the quality of an art is whether it raises more questions than it gives answers. For this to happen, you should sense through your screen the artist's creativity emanating from its work. The unsolved mystery of an artwork, teeming with life, acts as the unique yardstick of beauty.
To build the catalogue, we focus on contemporary UK artists from these mediums: painting, photography, drawing, sculpture, print and mix media. Professionals and amateurs are both welcome. If this is of interest, the artist handbook gives you more details about the conditions to join the platform.
We encourage you to send a picture of original works to blue@theblueneon.com. Truth be told, we could devote our lifetime around the question of beauty and please don’t blame us or you if your artwork don't make the cut.
Yours Sincerely,
BLUE
